New Netflix Release Portrays The “Out-Of-Body” Experience

Netflix has just released the show “Behind Her Eyes”, based off of the novel Dead To Her by Sarah Pinborough. “A single mother enters a world of twisted mind games when she begins an affair with her psychiatrist boss while secretly befriending his mysterious wife”. I began watching about 3 hours ago and I haven’t stopped yet. This thriller is not only thrilling, but it’s also eye-opening about the not-so-much-discussed topic of astro projection.

The out-of-body-experiences held by character Adele (Eve Hewson), aka “psycho wife”, started slowly as a glimpse of what was possibly her projecting in or eavesdropping into her husband’s affairs. A bright beam that softly glistened in the room, as the camera spans to Adele, who seemed to be in a deeply meditative state.

The term isn’t actually stated until the scene where she shares her experience with a friend, Rob (Robert Aramayo), and he looks up the term on Google:

“Astral projection is a term used in esotericism to describe an intentional out-of-body experience that assumes the existence of a soul or consciousness called an “astral body” that is separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it throughout the universe”. In which Adele responds, “I never cared to know what it was. I didn’t want it to end”.

Invasion of Privacy

In the show, Adele utilizes astro projection to keep a very close eye on her husband David (Tom Bateman). Imagine being a fly on the wall in whatever room at whatever time you want. She watches not only him, but begins to watch his lover, Louise (Simona Brown), as well.

This aspect of the show is actually what intrigued me enough to write this article. I’ve attempted to astro project a few times in the last year or two however, it’s always been something of a joke to me to actually astro project into someone else’s space. “Shooting my shot at my crush by astral projecting into his dreams” seems like such a terrifying reality after watching this show.

This article is to the true magic-believers, not the “girl, it’s a TV show” readers. To think people might actually learn this skill and use it to this sick advantage is sort of astonishing. With everything, every concept, there’s a dark and a light side.

Like Grandma Jan said, “with great power comes great responsibility”. I think this is one of the many reasons people are scared when they hear about “witches” or “magic”. Which all dates back to Salem witch trials and even before that. People fear what others will do with any type of power, physical or metaphysical.

Their are pros and cons to everything. Much like there are millionaires who could do much better with their money than get away with murders. I would highly recommend watching this. Also, if you do start astro projecting, please keep decency intact. I mean that especially to any of my future lovers or friends. No one wants to be watched in their private spaces, it’s creepy.
